Having been asked for a family-friendly version of their site, YouTube have developed an app which allow parents to control what their child is viewing online.

The YouTube For Kids app, aimed predominantly at children ranging in age from two to eight years old, features thousands of family-friendly and child-appropriate channels.

These channels are both educational and entertaining in nature, and aim to alleviate concerns raised by parents as to the content their child may be exposed to when using the internet.

In addition to excluding inappropriate or unsuitable footage, the app doesn't respond to searches which may include questionable or unsuitable words or terms.

While YouTube is currently only making the app for U.S users of smartphones and tablets running on Android, another version which will be compatible with Apple products is due to be released in coming months.
