Our hearts are with a family in Colorado, US this weekend, following the tragic news that a mother has died while trying to save her young son from drowning.

According to reports, 35-year-old Chelsey Russell was out on a boating trip in Lake Powell when her two-year-old son fell into the water.

Chelsey jumped in after the tot, followed by her brother, who had been driving the boat.

The boat, which had been travelling at 8MPH, had kept going directly after the little boy fell in and, realising the vessel was too far away from Chelsey, her brother turned back to steer it closer.

During the five minutes it took for her brother to reach the boat and drive it over to her, Chelsey managed to keep her son above the water. Neither she nor her son were wearing life jackets.

By the time her brother did reach her and pull her son into the boat, Chelsey was unconscious.

The mother was brought to shore, where medics performed CPR for 30 minutes; however, sadly, she did not survive the ordeal. The child is said to be in a stable condition in a nearby hospital.

Chelsey, who is also mother to a five-year-old little girl, has since been praised as a devoted mother and a ‘talented’ lawyer.

We are thinking of the family at this tragic time.

SHARE to spread the word of Chelsey’s incredible sacrifice.
