After a high profile legal battle and an incredibly difficult two years in the United States, Irish nanny, Aisling Brady McCarthy, has returned to her native Ireland having been cleared of murder charges.

The  37-year-old Co. Cavan-native arrived in Shannon Airport earlier this morning having been released from custody in Boston after charges were dropped against her in a stunning turnaround this week.

Aisling, who was accused of causing the death of baby Rehma Sabir in the infant's home in Cambridge Massachusetts in January 2013, spent almost two-and-a-half years in jail and four months under house arrest.

Understandably eager to return home to Ireland having left for the States in 2002, Aisling was forced to endure further delays as a result of a power failure.

Commenting on the travel complications, a spokesman said: "If we can make the plane ticket happen for her we will but it’s just not guaranteed that we can do it today. The main issue is that the office has experienced power failure and that’s hampering their efforts right now."

Surrounded by airport officers as she finally made her way through Shannon airport at 06.15 this morning, Aisling shed tears and told reporters she was glad to be home before departing in a waiting car.
