A family from Canada have admitted that they have faced criticism over their 3-year-old daughter's hobby, but insist they have no intention of dissuading her from pursuing it.

Leanna Parent from Quebec is following in her mum and grandmother's footsteps by practicing pole dancing in a move which many consider inappropriate for an individual of her age.

Speaking out against the people who have slammed her daughter's activity, 24-year-old mum Lissa said: "It develops physical strength and coordination. She is a young girl who likes to be active."

Explaining the background to Leanna's pursuit, Lissa reveals that the activity is something which she and her mother have practiced for years, saying: "Leanna watched us practicing before she could even walk. Her first experiences were at a young age and were progressive. She has never had any lessons per se, but performs her own acrobatics in an attempt to imitate us."

Playing down suggestions that Leanna may not understand the sexual undertones associated with the moves she is performing, Leanna's 44-year-old grandmother Julie said: "My daughter, my granddaughter and I are all sharing in a very liberating and spontaneous activity that energises us. A lot of families could only hope for likewise."

Leanna's grandmother, who runs her own studio, is even keen to include her own mother in the family pursuit, saying: "When we practice our passion, we are together and we share some unforgettable moments."

Looking to the future, Leanna's grandmother says: "I look forward to teaching her as she gets older as she easily climbs the 11ft pole and performs pirouettes and other moves already."

The family believe that the activity promotes femininity and elegance while also acting as an overall body workout.
