It has been a dramatic week for the family of Jason Corbett, the Irishman who died in the US after an assault with a baseball bat, but they have received some wonderful news this morning.

Just days after a US court placed Mr Corbett’s young children under the guardianship of their aunt, Tracey Lynch, 10-year-old Jack and eight-year-old Sarah have returned home to Ireland.

The two young children arrived at Shannon Airport at 7am this morning, with members of Mr Corbett’s relieved family waiting for them.

The news comes just two days after Mr Corbett’s wife Molly Martens – who is a person of interest in the case of his death – lodged an appeal to overturn the custody ruling.

The Corbett children’s mother, Mags, passed away from an asthma attack back in 2006, and Mr Corbett’s family were eager to have the children returned to Ireland as soon as possible.

Speaking to RTÉ, Mr Corbett’s brother Jason said that the family were relieved to hear the children would be returning to Ireland, with the kids’ grandmother said to be “over the moon”.

We wish all the best for the Corbett family.
