West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a discovery made by dog walkers near Hyrstland Park, off Track Road in Batley on Monday morning is a fully grown human placenta.

The placenta, which was found in a bag at approximately 09.40, has given rise to concern for the welfare of the new mother and her child.

Appealing to the public for information, Detective Sergeant Adrian Belle, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who can explain how the placenta came to be in this location."

Given the circumstances surrounding the discovery, police officials are keen to establish communication with the woman in order to ensure she can receive the medical help and support she may need.

Commenting on the shocking discovery, the detective went on to say: "We do know the placenta was from a baby which had progressed to full term and are of course anxious to trace both the mother and the child to check on their welfare."
