From the heartwarming vows to the cutting of the multi-tiered cake, the vast majority of wedding rituals strike a chord with most people, but perhaps one of the most touching of the entire ceremony is the all-important father / daughter dance.

For one particular father from the States however, the notion of dancing with his little girl on her special day came crashing down around him when he was left paralysed following a devastating car accident 17 years ago.

In addition to losing his young son in that same accident, Brittany Dejean's father was faced with a bleak future, struggled to come to terms with his quadriplegia and wrestled incessantly with the notion that his favourite pastime was nothing but a distance memory.

"One of the first things I thought of when I got injured was, I remember laying in the hospital bed thinking, I won't even dance with my daughter again. I'll never dance at her wedding."

Upon becoming engaged, Brittany was determined to dance with her father on her wedding day and set about making the dream a reality,

To the tune of I Hope You Dance by Lee Anna Womack, Brittany and her father took to the floor in front of delighted onlookers and shared their first dance in over 17 years.

Take a look at the obstacles the Dejean family had to surmount in order to make this incredibly sweet dream a reality.
