We love a quirky baby announcement, but usually the story behind the actual pregnancy discovery itself is pretty standard: you have a suspicion, you take a test, and it confirms that you’re expecting.

It was a totally different story for this Reddit user and his wife however, who figured out they were expecting their first child after a fitness tracker detected the pregnancy!

Reddit user YoungPTone took to the social networking site looking for a bit of tech help, writing: “My wife’s Fitbit is showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days. Two days ago, a somewhat normal day, she logged 10 hours in the fat-burning zone, which I would think to be impossible based on her activity level. Also, her calories burned do seem accurate. I would imagine if she was in the fat-burning zone she would burn a tonne of calories, so it’s not lining up.”

Revealing that he was thinking about replacing the ‘faulty’ accessory, he asked Reddit for insights – and got some very unexpected answers.

With a number of followers suggesting that his wife could be pregnant, the user obviously passed the feedback on to her – and it proved correct!

In an appendage to the original post, YoungPTone wrote: “This is real, the fear is real, the excitement is very real! I am a regular guy who was just looking for the community’s help with his wife's technology issue (we've all been there, right?). Little did I know I got a lot more than I bargained for! Now I'm a regular guy who is preparing to have his first child brought into the world, god willing, in Oct 2016.”

It is believed that the Reddit user’s wife’s Fitbit was affected by an increase in heart rate, stemming from the increase in blood volume that accompanies pregnancy.

How many times has the internet predicted a pregnancy before the parents themselves?!
