Free Easter Eggscapade Event Coming to Blackrock Park This April

If you're already dreading the "I'm bored" chorus that kicks in approximately 47 minutes into the Easter holidays, we've got good news. A free family event is coming to Dublin that ticks all the boxes: outdoors, creative, active and (crucially) it won't cost you a cent.

Easter Eggscapade will return to Blackrock Park on Saturday, April 4th 2026, running from 1pm to 5pm. Hosted by dlr Events, an initiative of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the afternoon will transform the playground area into an Alice in Wonderland-themed celebration with egg hunts, crafts and plenty of activities to tire out even the most energetic small people.

What to expect on the day

The event will blend classic Easter traditions with a Wonderland twist. Children will be greeted by Alice herself, along with the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter. There'll be a spinning teacup ride, a Hat Walk (more on that in a minute) and even a giant chess game where kids can become actual pawns. Which is pretty much how parenthood feels most days anyway.

One of the highlights will be the Egg Trail, where young explorers can follow clues around the park hunting for hidden treats and Easter goodies. It's basically an outdoor treasure hunt with chocolate at the end. We don't need to explain why children lose their minds for this.

Get crafty with the Easter bonnet station

The Make and Do tent will offer an Easter bonnet station where kids can create their own masterpieces before joining the Hat Walk fashion parade. Fair warning: you may be roped into helping stick feathers onto cardboard while simultaneously supervising a three-year-old near the glitter. But the photo opportunities will be worth it.

For the kids who need to burn off energy (so... all of them), there'll be bouncing castles, a teacup carousel and giant games and props scattered throughout. Face painters will also be on hand to add some sparkle and colour. Because nothing says "successful family outing" like returning home with glitter in places glitter shouldn't be.

A lovely local community event

An Cathaoirleach Councillor Jim Gildea said he was delighted to welcome families back to Blackrock Park for the celebration.

"Easter Eggscapade is all about community, creativity and shared experiences. It's wonderful to see the park come alive with colour, laughter and imagination as we celebrate the spirit of Easter together."

Families are encouraged to arrive early to make the most of the afternoon. The park itself is a lovely spot, so you could bring a picnic and turn it into a full day out. Or just grab a coffee nearby and let the kids run wild for a few hours. Either approach is valid parenting.

The details

Easter Eggscapade will take place on Saturday, April 4th 2026 from 1pm to 5pm at Blackrock Park, Co. Dublin. The event is completely free, which your wallet will appreciate after buying approximately 47 chocolate eggs already this month.

If you're looking for something fun, free and festive to do with the kids over the Easter break, this one is well worth popping in the diary. The combination of outdoor space, creative activities and the promise of chocolate tends to go down rather well with the under-10 crowd. And the Wonderland theme adds enough magic to make it feel like a proper event rather than just another trip to the playground.

We'll see you in the rabbit hole.
