A Friday night isn’t complete without a glance at The Late Late Show, but viewers around the country were left truly touched, inspired and in awe after watching Maureen Allman’s segment.

Maureen - a 51-year-old mother-of-one, from Galway - has terminal cancer, but she is determined to live out each and every day of her life to its fullest.

She initially got in touch with host Ryan Tubridy with a video message, summing up her attitude to her terminal diagnosis: “I believe in living life and, until they put me six foot under, I am going to be alive. Death is on the horizon and we have been very pragmatic in how we have dealt about death."

If you thought that her video message was inspiring, her follow-up appearance on last night’s show left viewers all over the country awestruck.

Maureen is truly grasping life with both hands, and is making sure that she lives out her every wish.

Having never married, she regaled Ryan with the story of how she bought herself an engagement ring after the news of her illness was broken. She also decided to treat herself to a Jaguar, and enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise after completing a tough course of chemotherapy.

“Being honest, I'm in a place where I'm actually very accepting of what's going on and I really want everybody around me to be accepting of what’s going on as well,” she said.

As you can imagine, Twitter was alight with messages of support and admiration for this courageous woman.

“Maureen Allman. What a beautiful, beautiful lady. An inspiration to many. I’m absolutely sobbing,” wrote one viewer.

Meanwhile, another tweeted: “Maureen Allman is a truly inspirational lady. True grit. She would put most of us to shame as we moan about the trivia of life.”
