Almost a fortnight after she was found abandoned in the Rathcoole area of Dublin, the Gardaí have released the first image of baby Maria.

The photo, which was released by the authorities this afternoon, forms part of a fresh appeal to the public for information regarding the case.

Sergeant Maeve O’Sullivan of the Child Protection Unit in Clondalkin today said: “We are releasing this photograph so Mum can see her little baby girl and we would ask Mum to contact us so she can come see her.”

Gardaí issued a number of appeals last week, including one in which they assured baby Maria’s mother that her welfare is their priority. They went on to emphasise that they were not treating the case as a criminal investigation.

Baby Maria is currently being cared for at the Coombe Hospital, while the Child and Family Agency Tusla last week obtained an interim care order for the child.

Gardaí and Tusla have asked that anyone with information to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on 01-6667600. Alternatively, you can get in touch with Tusla on 01-6206387.
