The tragedy that unfolded in Buncrana, Co.Donegal last weekend, which claimed the lives of five members of one family, has touched the hearts and minds of people all over the world.

And it seems communities have really rallied in response, raising almost a staggering €90,000 for heartbroken Louise James and her family.

According to reports this morning, there was an outpouring of generosity on a GoFundMe page set up in the wake of the tragedy. While the initial target for the page was £5,000, that figure was well and truly surpassed, with the current sum standing at in and around £48,000 (€60,000).

The whopping €90,000 figure was met when money amassed at a fundraiser in New York was added to the sum, as well as a staggering €20,000 raised by a local woman in Buncrana.

The news of the public’s outpouring of generosity comes just two days after victims Sean, Mark, Evan, Ruth and Jodi-Lee were laid to rest in their native Derry.

Baby Rioghnach-Ann was the sole survivor of the tragedy, after being rescued from the waters of Lough Swilly by passer-by Davitt Walsh.

The family will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
