We have some very sad news to share this afternoon, following a report that a two-year-old girl swept out to sea with her parents last weekend has passed away.

According to a statement released by the Devon and Cornwall Police, Mckayla Bruynius passed away last night in Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Her father, Rudy Bruynius, was pronounced dead on Saturday after being swept out to sea at Fistral Beach, Newquay.

Rudy’s wife, Lisinda, was also dragged out to sea but was rescued by a lifeboat.

Little Mckayla had been airlifted to hospital along with her father, and was left fighting for her life over the weekend.

A devastated Lisinda released a statement paying tribute to her beloved husband and daughter, which was released via the Devon and Cornwall Police.

She described Rudy as ‘a loving, caring and supportive husband, father and friend’, while lovingly branding Mckayla a ‘busy bee and always happy’.

“I am in disbelief at what has happened. I am so shocked at how quickly the sea condition changed on that day whilst enjoying family time together in Cornwall. I pray that others can learn from our tragedy, as I do not wish for anybody to go through our grief,” she said.

She went on to thank members of the RNLI, staff at both hospitals where her loved ones were treated, and the emergency services for their help and support.

Lisinda is also a mum to two sons, who managed to stay on the rocks as the wave swept their parents and sister out to sea.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

SHARE to gather well wishes for all affected by this awful tragedy.
