A three-year-old girl found inside a shipping container in Wexford on Sunday night has been taken to Dublin where she will be dealt with under immigration legislation with four others.

The youngster, three men and one woman - all believed to be Kurdish - were found in the unaccompanied container which, according to RTÉ, arrived in from Cherbourg on the Irish Ferries Oscar Wilde Ship.

A haulage firm picked up the container and brought it to New Ross before contacting Gardaí.

All five are said to be in good health and it is believed they were fleeing persecution from the Middle East.
