Last week MummyPages reported on the recent study that suggested parents shouldn't kiss their children on the mouth, research which completely divided opinion, but we’re sure this one will get the thumbs up from everyone.

According to US sociologists, when childcare is split equally between couples they report more satisfaction with their relationship then if the woman is mostly or wholly responsible.

The study found that women who performed more than 60% of the childcare, particularly when it came to setting the rules, playing or praising, were found to experience less relationship satisfaction, as well as being less happy with their sex life.

However, the study, which analysed more than 900 heterosexual couples, found that “there’s generally little to no downside to men being largely responsible for childcare.”

Talking about the study, researcher Daniel Carlson from Georgia State University, said: “We conclude that being an engaged father is very important to men. If it weren’t, we wouldn’t see such a high level of satisfaction. It suggests that father engagement and sharing childcare with one’s partner is important to both sexes."

"One of the most important findings is that the only childcare arrangement that appears really problematic for the quality of both a couple's relationship and sex life is when the woman does most or all of the childcare.”

Now is a great time to ask your other half for a child-free weekend!
