There have been videos and expert studies released warning parents of this danger, and sadly a couple have added their voices to the campaign following the death of their son.

Skye and Jason Kite have warned parents of the dangers of leaving young children around unsteady furniture, after their 21-month-old son Reef died from climbing up a chest of drawers.

It is believed that little Reef climbed up the chest, causing it to fall on top of him. It was his distraught mother, Skye, who discovered his body.

Paying tribute to her little one, Skye said in a statement: “He was full of life, cheeky and smart. He brought a smile to everyone’s face. No one should have to see what we’ve seen.”

Reef’s father Jason, meanwhile, had this to say to parents everywhere: “If I could put a message out, and if it has a chance to save one life, it’s worth it to prevent this sort of stuff.”

The Kites’ family have now set up a GoFundMe page (link here), to raise funds for little Reef’s funeral costs.

A video was previously shared around the world, warning parents of the dangers of not anchoring your furniture. You can watch it here.

Our hearts go out to the Kites at this difficult time.
