Making the decision to separate and divorce is not easy for any couple, especially where children are involved, and one person who can attest to that is singer Gwen Stefani.

The star has opened up about one of the worst parts of her split from Gavin Rossdale, almost a year on from their divorce.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Gwen was discussing the inspiration behind her latest album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, when she made a rather heart-breaking revelation.

She said: “[The divorce] was so insane because not only did my family break up, but then my kids are taken away like half the time. So that was really like, ‘What?! What did I do?!’”

Gwen and Gavin are parents to three sons: 10-year-old Kingston, seven-year-old Zuma and two-year-old Apollo.

The Don’t Speak singer filed for divorce from Rossdale last August, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’, with reports suggesting that the father-of-three was unfaithful.

Describing her marriage split as ‘torture’, the 46-year-old added: “Of course you go through the ‘Why me?’ and feel sorry for yourself. But then I was like, ‘No, this happened to me already and I made something good out of it’, and that was [No Doubt’s] Tragic Kingdom.”

Gwen is now loved-up with The Voice coach and country singer Blake Shelton.
