Handmade gift ideas for your partner’s very first Father’s Day

Father’s Day is right around the corner and if it’s your partner’s first time celebrating this milestone occasion, then we’re sure you’ll want to make it even more special.

Just like celebrating your first Mother’s Day, making Dad’s first Father’s Day memorable is such an important thing to do. A great way to make it extra special is to involve your tot in the creation of a sweet present.

If you’re looking to make a handmade gift that includes your little one, we have some fantastic ideas that your other half will look back on and cherish for years to come.

Footprint card

Get a piece of paper or card and fold it in half to make a card. To create a heart-shaped print of your baby’s foot, gently paint the base of their foot with a colour of your choosing and print it on the front of the card at a slight angle. Put more paint on your child’s foot and stamp another print of their foot tilted slightly in the other direction so the heels meet at the bottom. Now you will have a heart made out of your child’s footprint. Simply decorate the rest of the card with a heartfelt message.

Similar to the footprint, get a canvas or card and take prints of your child’s handprints to create the bushy leaves of a tree. Using a brush, paint the tree stump and branches. You can add little flowers or animals if you feel like getting really creative! Finish it off with a loving message for your partner.

Photo album

Collect photos from throughout your pregnancy that feature your partner and include snaps that you’ve captured of your other half with your little one since they made their entrance into the world. Write a short caption or message that relates to each photo and make sure to leave room for more pictures in the future so you can add more each Father’s Day.

Homemade cookies

Since your partner is celebrating his first Father’s Day, your tot will still be too small to get involved with baking, but you can cook up a batch of your other half’s favourite cookies or cake and decorate it with icing to commemorate this special occasion. As your child gets older each year, they can get more involved in the kitchen and you can turn it into a lovely family tradition.

‘Building memories’ jar

As it’s his first Father’s Day, there won’t be many activities that Dad can do with the new arrival but you can create cute plan ideas for years to come. To create this jar, start by buying a little Lego set and write ideas of what your partner and child can do in the future when they get older. From camping in the backyard and feeding the ducks to fishing and planting flowers in the garden together, the possible ideas are endless! Place them all in the jar for him to keep and look forward to as your baby gets older.
