35-year-old Polly Chowdury and 43-year-old Kiki Muddar bowed their heads in court today as their guilty verdicts were read out at the Old Bailey.

The two women, who were accused of causing the death of Polly's eight-year-old daughter Ayesha two years ago, had both denied murder, manslaughter or causing the death of a child.

Ayesha's lifeless body was found on her bedroom floor on the 29th of August 2013 and postmortem examination revealed that the child had sustained a head injury while also exhibiting signs of abuse, including a bite mark on her shoulder and carpet burns.

The women convicted of Ayesha's death began living together in 2013 and it is understood that Muddar exerted control over both Ayesha and her mother during this time, developing fictitious characters in a bid to influence Chowdury and her daughter's behaviour.

An insight into Ayesha's life prior to her tragic demise can be seen in notes she kept which documented her behaviour while under her mother and Muddar's care.

Ayesha's body was discovered after Muddar contacted emergency services to report that Chowdury had cut her wrists. Paramedics at the scene recall Chowdury commenting on her late daughter, saying: "Ayesha is always naughty. She was a naughty child and Mum thought she was possessed by the Devil."

The investigation into the child's death unearthed incriminating evidence which heard Muddar tell a friend: "I will drown her [Ayesha] in the f*cking bath."

Commenting on the tragic case, Detective Inspector Donna Convery said: "In the six months before her death Ayesha was subjected to horrific levels of mental abuse, which during the summer holidays escalated to become physical. She was an innocent child who was caught up in the most bizarre set of events, manipulated by two adults who were intent on causing her harm."

The women are due to be sentenced this Friday.
