Martin Finn was just 60-years-old when he was struck by an SUV and killed while out walking with his daughter, Abbie.

They were on their way back from feeding their horses when the incident occurred along the Newcastle Road in west Dublin.

According to reports, the dad-of-one pushed his 18-year-old daughter out of the way, ultimately saving her life, but sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly passed away.

They were on their way to meet Carol - wife and mum of the two - who, after dropping them to the field, was waiting in the car for them.

The road that Martin and Abbie were walking down doesn't have a footpath or lights, and Carol is urging everyone to make themselves visible at night by wearing a hi-vis jacket, reflectors and lights.

"They were wearing dark clothes. Martin had a head torch facing forward but they were hit from behind," she told the Irish Daily Mirror

"I would urge people to wear high-vis clothing and reflectors and lights if they are out at night."
