The twin sister of 27-year-old Tara Gilbert, who perished in a fire which swept a halting site on Glenamuck Road South in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning, has spoken of her despair in the aftermath of the weekend's tragic events.

According to The Herald, Amanda Gilbert, who also lost her brother-in-law, two nieces and her sister's unborn child on Saturday, admits she's struggling to come to terms with the devastation.

"I have lost the other half of me," she said as she considered the events which claimed the lives of ten people in recent days.

Paying tribute to the young mother who was awaiting the arrival of her third child with undisguised delight, Amanda said of her sister: "She was a real mother hen, always cooking and cleaning and looking after others."

Giving a snapshot into the family life enjoyed by Tara, Amanda spoke in glowing terms about her late brother-in-law, saying:"Her fiance was lovely, he absolutely idolised her."

Like any grief stricken relative, a heartbroken Amanda is attempting to seek solace where she can, saying: "I hope that she died peacefully, and they didn’t suffer."

Highlighting the severity of the weekend's events, Dublin Fire Brigade assistant chief, Denis Keeley, said: "I have dealt with a large number of unfortunate tragedies in my career but this was at the extreme end of anything I’ve dealt with in the past."

Irish charity, St. Vincent de Paul, have established an account which will allow members of the public to donate money in order to help those left homeless as a result of the weekend's fire.
