We have all seen the heartbreaking images of Faye Burdett and Mason Timmins, both of whom passed away from meningitis.

Following the release of these photos, a petition in the UK to make the Meningitis B vaccine free up to age 11 garnered HUGE support, and now it's the Republic of Ireland's turn.

At this moment, the MenB vaccine is only available privately in this country (at a cost of over €150.00), and MummyPages.ie, together with the mums and dads of the Republic of Ireland, are calling on the Government to make the vaccine available for FREE.

Ireland has the highest incidence of Meningitis B in Europe and yet the vaccine has not been added to our infant immunisation schedule, even though it is currently available free to young children in the UK.

Meningococcal Group B (MenB) is the killer bacteria which is the leading cause of meningitis and septicaemia, and the BIGGEST cause of infant illness in Ireland.

The Government needs to stump up the hefty fees that parents have to pay to get this done privately -  the vaccination needs to be made available to all children regardless of age or income.

This vaccine could save your child the pain of illness, life-long disability or even death.
