The colder months can be tough for a lot of people; as many as 25,000 older people's lives are at risk because of the cold. Something innocent wanted to do something about.
Back in 2008 they had an idea: they asked some older people and some younger people to knit little woolly hats. They put the hats on their smoothies, and for each one sold they made a donation of 30c to Age Action.
Since then the people of Ireland have knitted an astonishing 390,000 hats. And an incredible €120,000 has been raised for Age Action.
Last year the Big Knit raised over €20,000 which could fund 24,000 DIY jobs for 19,800 older people and 2,400 queries to the Age Action Helpline on issues including fuel, poverty, benefits and entitlements.
The little woolly hats are now on innocent smoothie bottles until Monday, 15th February*, and for every bottle sold wearing a lovely little hat, 30c will be donated to Age Action.
