It has been reported that a baby and an older child are among the victims of a stabbing which took place in Gibraltar earlier today.

Upon being called to the scene of the crime at Boschetti's Steps, police discovered the remains of a 31-year-old man, 37-year-old woman as well as a four-year-old girl and a six-week-old baby girl in a flat which has now been cordoned off for forensic investigation.

The deceased man is believed to have been a British national, originally from Liverpool, while the woman is of Spanish nationality.

The four-year-old girl involved in the tragedy is believed to be the daughter of the woman from a previous relationship and it has been reported that newborn baby was born in Spain.

It has been established that the four deceased individuals are from the same family and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragic incident, but the identities of those involved have yet to be disclosed.

Commenting on the crime, a spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police said: "There are still inquiries being conducted to locate close relatives of the family and as you may understand it is for this reason that the identities of the deceased are not being disclosed."

Speaking out about the incident, a Foreign Office spokesman asserted: "We stand ready to provide consular assistance."

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the event.
