How do I remove yellow stains from my hands and nails?

Nicotine and dark nail polishes can stain your nails yellow and are common culprits for unsightly discoloration. However, there are some household quick fixes to combat this problem.
  1. Squeeze fresh lemon juice from one or two lemons into a bowl of warm water. Soak your fingernails in the lemon juice for 10 to 15 minutes. The lemon juice will bleach the yellow tint and make your nails appear whiter. Rinse your hands thoroughly and repeat as necessary.
  2. For more stubborn stains, dissolve a denture tablet in water that is slightly cooler than room temperature. Soak your fingernails in the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes and rinse afterwards.
  3. Apply a clear varnish or base coat before using coloured polish. This will provide a protective barrier that can prevent the polish from staining your nails.
