How should I wear dark nail polish?

Wearing a dark nail polish can be daunting, but there is nothing to fear! In fact, anyone can wear it. Some women just wear dark colours in the winter and change to brighter colours for the summer. Here we will show you how to rock the dark nail colour look all year round.

Look after your nails
The first thing to do when you’re thinking of wearing statement dark nail polish is to make sure your nails are neat and clean. Generally speaking shorter nails take darker colours better than longer nails. Whatever length of nails you choose, ensure that they are all the same length, you don’t want some shorter than others.

Keep your look classy
Less is more when it comes to dressing elegantly and having a classy look is a great way to show off your nails. Try to keep your accessories and jewellery, including rings, bracelets and earrings to a minimum to maintain an elegant look. If you are wearing red clothes, you could compliment them with grey nail polish, choosing a shade that is a similar tone to the colour in your clothes.  As long as your shade compliments and does not fight your clothes, it will look great.
Dark nail polish shades do not need to match your makeup or outfit exactly. It is much more interesting to mix your shades rather than wearing only one shade from head to toe.

Try a dark polish that shimmers
There are dark nail polishes which have a shimmer finish, which will reflect the light a little. This will help make a dark colour less harsh and dreary. Some matte nail polish might begin to start looking dull after a day or, to avoid this opt for a glimmer in the polish if you want the look to be a little softer.

Apply base and top coats
Prepare your nails if you want your manicure to last longer. Starting and finishing the nail process with a base and top coat is important. They do it in salons and you should do it at home if doing your own nails. A dark polish in particular needs both of these as it will show chips more than a lighter colour would. Use a base coat before painting your nails to give them a good base and to smooth out the surface.

Apply a basecoat when you are finished applying your polish. We recommend reapplying a top coat every second day over your dark nail polish to help maintain the colour and to stop chipping.
