Most of us mums probably thought that the days of ferrying the kids around only started when our little ones reached the teenage years, but sadly not!

And the sheer amount of extra miles that we clock up acting as taxi drivers is HUGE – 700 miles to be exact.

It seems the significant increase in after-school activities like football matches, music lessons and dancing that we have to cart our kids to and from, is to blame for clocking up our car’s mileage.

Research found that one in ten car journeys are made by parents with as many as two out of three families adding and extra car to the home to deal with the huge number of journeys.

“It’s easy to see how the journeys clock up, with kids today often having busier social lives than their parents,” explained Emma Banks, a spokesperson for Sheilas Wheels.

And while some parents feel like all the driving is a bit of a pain, many others use it as time to talk to their kids.

However, if you are hoping it will ease off when your kids reach their 20s, you are sadly mistaken!

“Our research shows that there is little let up for parents as the taxi-meter doesn’t slow down even when the children reach their 20s or 30s,” added Sheila.
