The old saying reminds us that our health truly is our wealth, and so the latest news regarding Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital will undoubtedly bring comfort to parents all over the country.

A new report has revealed that hygiene standards in The Rotunda are among the highest set out by the HSE.

An unannounced visit to The Rotunda in August, by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), revealed that the hospital’s hygiene levels actually exceed the 90 per cent standard.

While the hospital’s overall compliance has been set at 94 per cent, a maternity-focused audit placed the delivery suite’s equipment and environment hygiene levels at 97 per cent.

Professor Fergal Malone, Master of the Rotunda, has welcomed the positive feedback this week.

“We as a team at The Rotunda take huge pride in these positive results. Keeping a building as old as ours – 260 years old – as clean as our staff do is no easy task…They really are the unsung heroes of the hospital,” he said.

This will no doubt come as music to the ears of mums-to-be and parents attending the hospital.
