She has had a profound impact on the lives of all those affected by the Chernobyl Disaster, and so we can think of no one more fitting than Adi Roche to receive this latest honour.

Ms Roche, who is the voluntary CEO and founder of Chernobyl Children International, is set to receive the Freedom of Cork City in a special ceremony. Scheduled for Friday, 27th May, the presentation will be hosted by Cork’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Chris O’Leary, at Cork City Hall.

Commenting on the news, Ms Roche said: “I graciously accept this unique Award on my own behalf but more than that, I accept it gladly on behalf of all the victims and survivors of the world’s worst nuclear disaster that, even 30 years later, is still an unfolding tragedy.”

“I also accept the Award on behalf of all our wonderful volunteers.  I salute you all, you are the life blood of our organisation, our charity, Chernobyl Children International,” she added.

This is just the latest honour recognising Ms Roche’s incredible work; just last month, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Limerick alongside her colleague, Ali Hewson.

What a well-deserved accolade. Congratulations, Adi.
