A brave mother has reportedly died while saving her three-year-old daughter from drowning, during Hurricane Harvey.

The as yet unnamed woman was found floating with her daughter in a flood, in Beaumont, by first responders yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Beaumont Police Department, the 41-year-old woman died at the scene. Her daughter was saved and is in a stable condition.

The statement revealed that the mother was driving when she got caught up in heavy flood water. She is then believed to have pulled into a car park, and gotten out of the car and been swept up in the flood.

Two police officers and a brace of fire rescue divers spotted the mother floating about half-a-mile from her vehicle, her daughter ‘holding on to her’.

They managed to pull them both into their boat. While the mother was unresponsive, the child was responsive but suffering from hypothermia.

CPR was performed on the child while they waited to get her to an ambulance. A passer-by helped out, transporting the mother and child to the waiting ambulance in a truck.

Sadly, the mother passed away, but the child is said to be in a stable condition.

Members of the Beaumont Police Department have paid tribute to the mother, with spokeswoman Carol Riley telling People that the woman ‘absolutely saved the child’s life’.

“When the baby was found, the baby was clinging to her,” explained Officer Riley.

“The mother did the best she could to keep her child up over the water.

“The baby also had a backpack that was helping her float on her back, and she was holding on to her mum.”

Our thoughts are with the family at this tragic time. What a brave and selfless mother this woman was.
