A dying mother’s best friend has granted her final wish, by vowing to adopt her four children.

Sara Hankins, who was diagnosed with a fatal neurological disease last year, was reduced to tears when best friend Missy Armstrong made the amazing promise.

“I couldn’t stop crying. My number one concern was keeping my kids together, because I think what they’re going to go through is hard enough,” she told Today.

Sara, who is just 36 years old, was left devastated when she received her diagnosis, and she is currently in the final stages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

With an 18-year-old, an 11-year-old, a nine-year-old and an eight-year-old at home, Sara was naturally concerned about her children’s living situation after her passing.

Thankfully, however, Missy is an amazing friend and was more than willing to step up to the plate.

“I thought, yeah, I can do this. I love them, and I’ve known them their whole lives. I make a decent living. I have the support of her family,” Missy said.

The kids, themselves, ‘have an idea’ of what is happening – but given how they already consider Missy to be ‘family’, the transition should certainly be less painful.

“Me taking them is the way they can all be together…I love the kids,” Missy added.
