The father of Omar Omran, the three-year-old who died from stab wounds earlier this week, has spoken of his grief over the loss of his child.

Khalid Omran, who reportedly arrived in Ireland on Tuesday, told The Star that his ‘heart is gone’ following the death of his son.

Omar was discovered in his home in Poddle Park, Kimmage, on Monday evening, with stab wounds. Despite the emergency services’ best attempts to resuscitate him, the little boy succumbed to his injuries.

Omar’s doctor mother, Maha Al-Adheem, was rushed to St James’ Hospital, where she was also treated for knife wounds.

Yesterday morning, Gardaí confirmed that a woman in her early forties had been arrested in connection with the tragedy. Ms Al-Adheem then stood before the courts this morning, to answer to a murder charge.

According to reports, Ms Al-Adheem told members of the court: "Yes, it was my knife; yes, it was my hand. It was not me, it was the power."

A heartbroken Mr Omran shared the depths of his grief today, as he said: “Three years old, he didn’t do anything to anyone. What of that? I have no life now."

Mr Omran is said to be estranged from his wife, and living in Iraq. He told The Star that he had not seen little Omar in over a year.

“He is clever and he is not a stranger to anyone. If anyone would say hello to him, he would say hello. He was not sick; he was very clever and very sharp,” he said, in tribute to his late son.

Our hearts go out to the family at this devastating time.
