It seems Simon Cowell used some very interesting techniques in preparation for becoming a father.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Simon confessed that he got puppies before the birth of his son, Eric to get him ready for his new role as a dad.

“It wasn’t something that I was expecting,” the music mogul said with a cheeky grin to the talk show host.

“What I did was I practiced by getting some puppies first.

“I got two puppies so I got used to looking after things and then Eric arrived six months later.”

However, as many of us can attest, pets and children are two completely different things which Simon quickly realised.

"I wasn't good to begin with. I thought he was going to be like a puppy.

“Like you could throw things and he would retrieve them…"

But it seems little Eric was not amused and dad knew it.

“After eight months, I said to Lauren one night ‘I think he hates me’.”

Now the pair spend time watching cartoons together which one of them enjoys more than the other.

“Dora the bloody Explorer,” Simon said while rolling his eyes.

The two dads went on the discuss all the TV shows we have to endure as parents but with a big smile on his face, we think Simon is loving life as a dad to little Eric.
