You asked

I wear contact lenses all the time and never have problems. Do I need to have glasses too?

It is safe to wear most contact lenses on an ongoing basis; however it is a good idea to have a backup pair of glasses as you never know when you might need them! It is entirely possible you may lose a contact lens or one may become torn. You may also be unable to wear contact lenses for a number of reasons including:

  • Infection; contact lenses shouldn’t be worn if you have an eye infection, such as conjunctivitis.
  • Scratched cornea; if there is a scratch on the cornea then contact lenses shouldn’t be worn. Blurred vision
  • Styes or chalazion
  • Dry eye
  • Corneal ulcers

A spare pair of glasses is always a good idea as an infection could mean you may not be able to wear contact lenses for several days.
