It is largely disputed that where is no way you would go through an entire nine months and not know you're pregnant.

However, for one mum, Sarah Bailey, a series of events led her to believe she was suffering from constipation, but little did she know she was about to give birth.

On April 12, the mum felt back pain but she was still comfortably wearing her size 10 jeans.

Sarah was having her haircut when the pain became so unbearable she had to lay down.

The 29-year-old asked her mum Pat, to buy some laxatives as she thought it was the constipation causing the pain.

In just a few short minutes she made her way to the bathroom, where she discovered she was bleeding.

Her mum quickly realised what was happening and told her daughter: "You're having a baby."

Sarah blacked out after Pat delivered the baby girl.

Baby Desirae had to be resuscitated by paramedics on her parents' bed shortly after her traumatic birth.

The mum recalls the terrifying moments during her ordeal.

“I could hear the voices and remember seeing a commotion around me, but it all felt miles away, like I wasn’t really there.

“I’d had no idea I was pregnant, let alone seconds away from giving birth.”

The new mum was worried that her drinking had had an impact on the newborn's health as she had no idea she was pregnant.

“I asked the doctors if it was my fault she hadn’t been breathing at first, but they said it was just where her body had gone into shock,” she explained.

Last August, Sarah attended her brother's wedding when she was a month pregnant.

“I feel bad that I drank, but I had no idea Desirae existed then.”

Both mother and baby were rushed to hospital and checked over.

Sarah's black out was due to shock.

Thankfully, the pair were discharged three days later and Desirae tipped the scales at a healthy 7lb 14oz.

Waiting at home was Dad, David Lee and their three other children, Rio who is 11 years old and twin one-year-old girls, Isabella and Tamiya.

But how did the 29-year-old not know she was pregnant ?

Doctors said the position of the placenta at the front of her uterus, hid her bump.

Additionally, her regular monthly periods were in fact her placenta slowly rupturing.

Sarah explained: “Doctors have said it was just one of those unpreventable things and can’t say exactly what caused it. I thought it was just a heavy period.

“I’d not long had the twins, so assumed it was my body getting back to normal, and that the hormones and trauma of the birth had had an effect.

“David and I had been using condoms, so we weren’t having unprotected sex. But I guess we were just in that tiny percentage of people they don’t work for.”

Still in some understandable shock, the new parents took to Facebook to announce the newborn's arrival.

“At first, people thought I was messing around and that I’d posted a picture of a doll – but they soon realised I was completely serious,” said Sarah.

Since her pregnancy was a complete surprise, they had no baby supplies.

Lucky enough they had incredible friends and family that rallied around them to ensure that baby Desirae had all she needed.

What a remarkable turn of event, congratulations to the family on their latest edition.
