Police in Queensland, Australia are on the hunt for a man who broke into a family home and tried to abduct a six-year-old little girl.

According to reports, the family was sleeping in their Loganlea home when, at around 5am this morning, the man entered.

He is said to have entered the little girl’s upstairs bedroom, then carried her downstairs and placed her on the couch. She was still asleep at the time.

The child only woke up when she felt the abductor put his hand over her mouth. Despite his urgings for her to stay quiet, the girl managed to break free and scream, alerting her parents who were asleep upstairs.

At this point, the man hit the child in the face – before fleeing the house, on foot.

Once the child’s parents arrived downstairs and discovered what had happened, they contacted the police immediately.

The little girl described the man as a ‘stranger’ with a ‘dark complexion’. He is said to have been in his early twenties.

The investigating detective in the case, Sergeant Grant Ralston, heaped praise on the unnamed little girl.

“It’s sad to think this child was assaulted in her own home,” he told the media, in a statement.

“I’m very proud of the child…We want this person caught. We want this person off the street.”

An investigation and search is now underway for the man, with people in the local area urged to share any information they may have in relation to the attempted abduction and assault.

Thank heavens this little one is OK – we can’t imagine how frightened she was, and how much courage it took to make a break for escape.
