Tech-savvy high school student, Ahmed Mohamed, hit the headlines last month when his passion for technology landed him in very hot water with school officials.

Having dedicated time and effort to creating an electronic clock, the proud 14-year-old was eager to show his invention to fellow students and teachers at MacArthur high school in Irving, Texas.

Unfortunately for Ahmed, the unveiling didn't go to plan and he soon found himself handcuffed by police officers who accused him of bringing a bomb to school.

Stunned by the apparent racial profiling and supposed Islamophobia, millions of people rallied behind Ahmed, with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, even going as far to praise the youngster's ingenuity and dedication to science.

Having been publicly lauded for his skills by a number of global organisations, Ahmed has made the decision to leave the United States and attend Qatar Foundation's Young Innovator's Program.

Releasing a statement about their son's future endeavour, the Mohamed family celebrated their child's decision and considered the impact it would have on Ahmed's life..

"After careful consideration of all the generous offers received, we would like to announce that we have accepted a kind offer from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) for Ahmed to join the prestigious QF Young Innovators Program, which reflects the organisation's on-going dedication to empowering young people and fostering a culture of innovation and creativity," it read.

The family's decision comes just days after meeting the US president at the White House's Astronomy Night on Monday.

What an incredibly exciting week for a very impassioned young man!
