Each and every baby born is special and unique; but some births are a little different to others. And the following, shared across social media this week, is actually phenomenally rare.
Incredible footage has been released documenting the birth of a baby ‘en caul’ – meaning it emerged into the world still inside its amniotic sac.
The video, shared to the Portuguese page Céu de Borboletas (which translates to the charming ‘Butterfly Heaven’) shows the tot inside the still-intact sac, surrounded by the amazed and ‘excited’ medical staff.
Given that the chances of such a birth occurring stand at just one-in-80,000, it’s pretty amazing for the doctors themselves to have witnessed it – let alone us, at home, getting to watch it, too!
Needless to say, the footage has gone completely viral since being uploaded yesterday, amassing an astonishing 7.8 million views in under 24 hours.
Facebook users have been totally charmed by the footage, and have branded it ‘beautiful’ and ‘wonderful’.
“My uncle was born this way,” wrote one woman, adding, “Superstition says that folk born en caul will never drown.”
