It is very important that your preschooler meet the new baby as soon as possible so have their caregiver bring them to visit you and the new baby in the hospital. Try to not be busy with your baby when your preschooler arrives so that you can give them all your attention and greet them properly. Should you be busy feeding the baby, let your child watch the baby feeding and allow them to see and touch his fingers and toes.

To help your preschooler feel involved in the whole situation, have the caregiver get them a small gift to bring for you or the baby. Let your preschooler know that the new baby has not replaced them and have a photo of them next to your bed where they can see it.

Hospitals can sometimes be a little scary for small children, so make sure to keep the visits short and simple. When the visit is over, your child might become a little teary at having to leave you, so make sure that the caregiver has a special outing planned for after the visit.

When your child has been introduced to the baby, allow them to have as much contact with the baby as possible. Let your child take a few photos of you and the baby as well as the hospital. They can brag about the new baby to Grandma and Grandpa and their friends.

Even though your preschooler might seem a little confused by the whole situation, with time and patience they and their new little sibling will bond and form a relationship at their own pace.
