Gardaí have launched an investigation this week, following the alleged attempted abduction of a young boy in Co. Westmeath.

According to a report by the Irish Mirror, the 11-year-old boy was ‘approached suspiciously’ by a man driving a red ‘old-style’ car on Ashe Road, in Mullingar.

The incident is said to have occurred on Wednesday morning, between 8:40am and 8:50am, while the boy was walking to school.

The boy raised the alarm once he arrived at the school, passing on details of the incident to his teachers. Gardaí were then alerted at once.

A full investigation is now underway, with authorities examining CCTV from the area. A checkpoint was also set up this morning, in the very spot where the incident is said to have taken place.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone with information relating to the alleged incident to come forward.

If you think you may be able to help with the investigation, you are asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station immediately, on 044 938 4000.

Thank heavens this young boy is safe. Let’s hope gardaí will be able to get to the bottom of this before anyone is harmed.
