Police in Northern Ireland have launched an investigation after primary schools were forced to ‘urgently evacuate’ this morning.

According to a report by the Belfast Telegraph, staff and students were forced to flee the schools after they received ‘malicious communications’ from as yet unidentified sources.

The publication identified three schools affected by the incident: Kilmaine Primary School and Nursery Unit; Omagh County Primary, Campsie; and Armstrong Primary, Armagh.

The PSNI’s Garry Eaton is quoted as saying: “At this stage there is no information to suggest the incidents are terrorist-related, however enquiries continue to establish the facts.”

This concerning incident comes just days after schools in the UK and the Republic of Ireland were also forced to evacuate following alleged bomb scares.

It is believed that the incidents could have been linked, with reports suggesting that they were phoned in from the same automated system.

Although the scares turned out to be hoaxes in the end, the authorities have naturally moved to get to the bottom of these serious incidents and are appealing to anyone with information to get in touch.
