According to recent research, families who have yet to switch to online payment methods when tending to their household bills are missing out on whopping savings.

As well as being excluded from online deals, some families are also being hit with extra fees for receiving paper bills as some firms charge up to €42 a year for processing bills in this fashion.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, spokesman for Bonkers.ie, Simon Moynihan, said: "There is definitely a postal premium being paid by householders that stay offline, and each year it becomes more expensive to manage your affairs with a pen and paper."

Simon encourages customers to seek the best deal possible by shopping online, advising: "It's car insurance season, and it you don't look at renewing online you're losing out. Insurance companies are now offering online discounts and cash incentives that could easily save you 10% on your premium. That's about €60 for a regular family car."

Will you be considering making the switch?
