There is sad news to report as a young father-of-one has tragically died in a helicopter crash in Florida.

According to the Irish Independent, Liam Flynn, from Clane in Co. Kildare, was involved in an Army Black Hawk helicopter crash on Tuesday night.

The 34-year-old was taking part in a training session just off Florida’s Gulf Coast when the helicopter crashed into the sea. Seven Marines and four soldiers also died in the tragic incident.

According to a Marine Corps spokesman, Liam, who has been living in North Carolina with his family for 12 years, and his colleagues were conducting training which involved "helicopter and boat insertion and extraction."

Talking to the Irish Independent, Fr Paul O’Boyle, the local priest in Clane paid a very touching tribute to Liam: “His family are very well respected and well known in the Clane area. It’s a great shock to the wider area. The local community have been a great support to the family over the last few days.”

“The family are lovely people. They’re trying to come to terms with it. It’s a very difficult tragedy.”

Liam is survived by his wife Destiny and one-year-old daughter Laliane.

Our thoughts are with the family at this tragic time.
