Police in the UK have launched an investigation today, after the bodies of an Irish mother and her seven-year-old son were reportedly found in their London home.

According to the Irish Mirror, police have identified the pair as 37-year-old Sinead Higgins, originally from County Mayo, and her son, Oisín O’Donnell.

The harrowing discovery was made on Wednesday morning, when police forced their way into Ms Higgins’ home in The Fairway, Ruislip.

Authorities were responding to a call from a member of the public, who was concerned for the welfare of the mother and her son.

Detective Inspector Dave Bolton shared the following information: “The investigation is at a very early stage, but inquiries so far lead us to believe there is a likelihood that the tragic events that led to the deaths do not involve a third party.”

“We are appealing to anyone who has any information to come and speak with us,” he added.

A post-mortem is due to take place on Friday.

Anyone who thinks they may be able to help with the investigation is asked to contact police on 020 8785 8244, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
