While it can be very difficult to make a positive from a negative when you're utterly heartbroken, one incredibly selfless woman in California taught us all that not only is it possible, but it's also hugely therapeutic.

Upon learning that her husband-to-be no longer wanted to marry her, Quinn Duane set about turning her heartache into a kind act which benefited almost 100 strangers.

The 27-year-old, who was less than a week away from a $35,000 wedding celebration in Sacramento, knew, along with her family, that their upset should be channelled into something positive if she wanted to move on with her life.

Opening up about their decision to donate their daughter's wedding feast to the city's homeless, Quinn's mother said: "When I found out on Monday that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back."

Thanks to Quinn and her family, 90 homeless men, women and children tucked into the young woman's wedding dinner in the Sacremento Citizen Star Hotel.

Expressing his gratitude to Quinn, father-of-five, Rashad Abdullah, who attended the meal with his wife and children said: "When you're going through a hard time and a struggle, for you to get out to do something different with your family, it was really a blessing."

Echoing her husband's sentiments, Erika thanked Quinn for her incredibly generous gesture, saying: "To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind."

What a truly heartwarming story.
