Becky Watts was just 16-years-old when she was murdered by her step-brother Nathan Matthews and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare.

Today, Mr Justice Dingemans sentenced the two to a combined total of 50 years in jail; Nathan was handed a 33 year sentence for her murder and Shauna was given 17 years for manslaughter.

According to reports, as the trial came to a close, the judge, who is a father-of-three, looked visibly upset as he paid tribute to Becky’s family.

"Finally, I should like to pay public tribute to the family of Becky for the dignified way in which they have conducted themselves throughout these proceedings. Hearing the evidence during the trial has been difficult for anyone, but it is plain that it has been an immense burden for the family," he said.

Sir James Dingemans’s emotion did not go unnoticed by the Watts family, something that Dale West, Becky’s cousin, said he would never forget.

“I think it showed the judge feels how we feel. He was hurting as much as we were hurting. I was very surprised to see it. It is something I will never forget."

Becky's mum, Tanya, issued a statement earlier in the day, which describes her heartbreak at the loss of her daughter.

"The hardest thing is I can’t believe I will never see Becky again. Becky’s big day should have been her wedding and not her funeral. She has been robbed of her future.”

A jury took just three hours and 27 minutes to find the defendants guilty.
