As we woke this morning to see our newsfeed dominated with ‘best dressed’ lists and ‘epic fails’ from last night’s VMA Awards in New York, there is one outfit that is causing quite the controversy.
The VMAs have now become the one red carpet where anything goes when it comes to style and this year was no different.
That’s why we were a little shocked to see such a strong reaction to Laura Perlongo’s outfit choice.
The fiancée of Catfish creator Nev Schulman rocked the red carpet in some black trousers and a bomber jacket.
Keeping it simple, the writer finished the look with a loose fishtail braid and some nude courts.
All sounds pretty safe, right?
Well, the reason for so much discussion on such a simple outfit was Laura’s decision to show off her baby bump.
And the outfit choice caused quite the stir online.

But at a ceremony that has seen its fair share of headline grabbing looks, why is Laura's causing so much controversy?
