Hugely popular children's toy, Lego, made headlines in recent months when it was revealed that they planned to introduce their first ever wheelchair-using figurine in a move which was lauded by charities and fans alike, but it doesn't look like they're going to stop there!

In an effort to highlight the changing roles evident in today's society, the world-famous company are also due to release a line of new characters which more accurately reflects the society in which are children are living today.

Due for release in June of this year, the Lego City range will feature a variety of characters which all children are familiar with, but which rarely feature in our childrens' toy boxes.

From a 'hipster' dad sporting a checked shirt and a 'working mum' rocking a tailored suit to a female painter and decorator, Lego hope to offer children an insight into various family dynamics.

Commenting on the new range which seeks to outline 'progressive gender roles', the president of Lego systems told Fortune Magazine: "We need to stay in tune with the world around us."

Elaborating on the motivation behind the new range of figurines, he continued: "We aren't responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base."
