While we all try to raise our children to be empathetic of other people's plights and considerate of their needs no matter what the circumstance, we can't help but wonder whether we're doing enough.

Well, if there's one mum who needn't worry on this front, it's Ava Faulk from the States.

When her little boy, Josiah, expressed concern for a homeless man he saw standing outside an Alabama restaurant, Ava quickly realised everything she had attempted to teach her son since his birth five years ago had had an impact.

Requesting they take the man for dinner, Josiah did everything in his power to ensure his new friend felt comfortable and accepted while having dinner at the local Waffle House.

Recalling the touching event, Ava said: "He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him. So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because you can't order without one."

Before their guest could tuck into his hearty meal, little Josiah asked if he could say grace, with his proud mum revealing: "The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried."

Explaining the effect her son's gesture had had on her, proud mum Ava insisted: "Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I'll ever get to witness."

Why not find out what little Josiah has to say for himself?
