When 4-year-old Ethan Ferrier learned to write, he knew that he wanted his first letter to be sent to the people responsible for stealing his beloved dog, Fern.

Fern, a black springer-cocker spaniel cross, was stolen from Ethan's family home in Surrey in April 2013.

Almost two years on, the loss is just as acute and the little boy felt compelled to put pen to paper and express how he felt following Fern's disappearance.

Addressing the letter to 'the bad men who took Fern, little Ethan wrote: "Can Fern come home now please? I miss her."

According to Ethan's mum Jodie, her little boy still hasn't gotten over Fern's absence and describes him as 'devastated.'

Ethan wasn't the only affected one by the incident however and the Ferrier family have used various social media platforms in a bid to locate their family pet.

Commenting on the impact this must have had on her son, Jodie said: "He sees me on the internet trying to push the campaign and asks me what I'm doing. I say 'I'm writing to people to try and find Fern' and then he said 'Can I write a letter to the people who have got her?'"

Jodie, who is expecting her second child in coming weeks, is hopeful that her and Ethan's efforts will reunite Fern with her heartbroken family, saying: "You can't give up. It does happen- they do turn up. We are doing things like this to appeal to people because somebody somewhere knows something. I'm absolutely positive."

We're wishing the Ferrier family all the best with their efforts.
